Bochy on Blach: Facing Dodgers ‘helps him focus every pitch’

SAN FRANCISCO — The fastest way to win over San Francisco Giants fans is to dominate the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Needless to say, Ty Blach has a special place in the hearts of fans throughout the Bay Area after adding another impressive start against the Dodgers to his quickly-filling resume.

“I’m sure he gets caught up in the tension,” Bruce Bochy said about Blach. “The fans get into it, whether here or in Los Angeles. I think he realizes that he’s got to focus on every pitch and he just does a great job of that.

“It’s just one of those things that are hard to explain, when a certain pitcher does well against another club,” Bochy added. “We’ve had that against us, but he seems to pick it up against them. I think more than anything too, the last couple of starts he just wanted to improve and get back to who he was and he did that today.”

Blach entered Sunday’s start 3-2 with a microscopic 1.90 ERA over nine career starts against the Dodgers. Starting on Opening Day when he blanked the Dodgers over five innings of work, Blach is already 2-0 over three starts against Los Angeles this season.

On Sunday, Blach held the Dodgers to two runs and six hits over six innings of work, earning his second win of the season.

When asked how he’s maintained his dominance against the Dodgers, especially this season, Blach said, “it’s just a matter of what they’re trying to do in the box. Buster and Nick have a great way of seeing what those guys are doing and what they’re trying to do each at-bat and their appraoch.

“So, you just try to mix in-and-out, change the speed, and try to stay away  from some similar sequences you’ve used in the past.”
