SAN FRANCISCO — Through the first couple weeks of the season, the San Francisco Giants got by without needing a fifth starter. Now, not only do they need a full rotation, but because of their doubleheader against the Los Angeles Dodgers on Saturday, they’ll need a sixth starter to get through their upcoming series against the San Diego Padres.

Enter Andrew Suarez.

Before the Giants wrapped up their four-game series against the Dodgers on Sunday afternoon, Bruce Bochy was asked whether Suarez will start on Tuesday.

“Yeah, we’ll have somebody here and it’ll probably be him,” Bochy said.

Suarez is fresh off a seven-inning shutout on Thursday, where he held the Reno Aces to one hit and one walk while striking out a season-high nine. He’s 2-0 through three starts at Triple-A Sacramento, boasting a 1.08 ERA in 16.2 innings of work.

Earlier in the year, Suarez made his major league debut against the Arizona Diamondbacks on April 11. Although he allowed four runs over 5.1 innings and received the loss, Suarez showed excellent control without giving up a walk and striking out seven.
