The Giants polished off their third straight win Tuesday night against the Cincinnati Reds. But if they want to get the sweep Wednesday, they will have to do it without the services of two of their best players.
Andrew Baggarly of The Athletic reported Wednesday afternoon that Buster Posey and Brandon Crawford will both miss Wednesday’s game. Posey’s day off is a precaution after he was hit in the head by a foul ball late in Tuesday night’s game, while Crawford has been dealing with a sore back for a while despite his improved production at the plate.
#SFGiants updates!
-Posey did not go through concussion tests after foul tip last night. Was going to play 1B today but Bochy resting him as a precaution. Available off bench.
-Crawford getting a planned day off. Has been dealing with a sore back.
-Bum threw a 30-pitch 'pen. ??— Andrew Baggarly (@extrabaggs) May 16, 2018
The Bumgarner news is more promising, and is yet another positive sign that the lefty’s recovery is on track and he could return to the team soon. The Giants could certainly use his presence on the mound, as despite having managed to stick around .500 without him, the team’s pitchers have struggled at times recently, giving up 11 runs three times in their last nine games.
