Bruce Bochy says Brandon Belt will miss up to 3 weeks to recover from appendectomy

SAN FRANCISCO – Friday night the Giants finally had their full line up back – for one inning.

Brandon Belt mysteriously left the game last night with reports of stomach illness, it wasn’t until after the game that reporters and even players were aware that Belt had actually gone to the hospital for appendicitis.

This morning Brandon Belt tweeted out this picture of him recovering from his appendectomy.

Before Saturday’s game Giants manager Bruce Bochy confirmed that Belt had been released from the hospital and is now recovering.

“I say up to three weeks, in that area. Could be a little sooner, could be a little longer,” Bochy said. “We’re all a little different on how we recover off of this. He’s going to be down for a little while.”

This timing is unfortunate as many of the Giants key players were returning this week, including Madison Bumgarner who is set to start Tuesday against the Arizona Diamondbacks. This frustration is also compounded by the fact that Belt is on track to have the best season of his career.

“I think you’re talking about one of the most proficient hitters in baseball at this point,” Bochy said. “What’s disappointing is you get Joe Panik back and for one inning we had our club out there and now we lost Belt so thats disappointing.”
