SAN FRANCISCO – 49ers legend Dwight Clark passed away on Monday after a long battle with ALS. He was 61.
Bruce Bochy remembered his time with the 49ers legend in the dugout before the Giants game on Monday night.
Bruce and Dwight had met at a Pebble Beach golf tournament which plotted players and coaches from the Giants against the 49ers.
“What a great guy, fun guy to be around. He just enjoyed life,” Bochy said.
Dwight was a huge baseball fan and the Giants had arranged for him to visit AT&T Park and hang out with Bruce and the players in the dugout. However, after his diagnosis of ALS last year and with his health deteriorating the visit never happened.
“I know he’s going to be sorely missed,” Bochy said. “If you ever were around Dwight you had fun. He just enjoyed life and had a passion for it. It’s a sad day today.”
Dwight will be missed by many in the Bay Area community.
I’m heartbroken to tell you that today I lost my best friend and husband. He passed peacefully surrounded by many of the people he loved most. I am thankful for all of Dwight’s friends, teammates and 49ers fans who have sent their love during his battle with ALS. Kelly Clark.
