It looks like the Giants have selected Buster Posey’s heir apparent.
With the second pick in the MLB Draft on Monday, the San Francisco Giants took Georgia Tech catcher Joey Bart. Posey, who was the last catcher the Giants had drafted in the first round before Monday, was also a Georgia product, but attended Florida State.

The last time the Giants had the No. 2 overall pick was 1985, when the team drafted Will Clark.
Bart was considered the best player available after the Tigers selected pitcher Casey Mize with the first-overall pick. Bart had a dominant final season at Georgia Tech, posting a slash line of .359/.471/.632 with 16 home runs and 38 RBIs in 57 games. Bart won Atlantic Coast Conference player of the year and defensive player of the year.
