He was 61 years old.
I’m heartbroken to tell you that today I lost my best friend and husband. He passed peacefully surrounded by many of the people he loved most. I am thankful for all of Dwight’s friends, teammates and 49ers fans who have sent their love during his battle with ALS. Kelly Clark.

Anyone in life should be so fortunate to feel the bear hug of love Dwight Clark felt in his final year on Earth. How he and his 49ers teammates treated each other in saying goodbye is forever an inspiration to us all.

Dwight earned that love and friendship with the way he lived. Helluva Catch he made, too. I’m glad he can rest now. #RIPDwightClark

RIP Dwight Clark. An absolute Legend. I got a chance to meet Dwight and his son at KNBR one day back in 2011. I just talked ball with him in the bullpen for an hour. He was so cool. When the closed The 'Stick, @BontaHill & I ran "The Catch" route one last time. RIP LEGEND. pic.twitter.com/Av8dkHdGmE

So sorry to her about the passing of Dwight Clark. Great person and player. When he watched Jerry Rice for the first time he walked through the halls at 711 Nevada St saying “he is so smooth and soon to be rich.”

I’m unspeakably sad about this. Never did meet Dwight, unfortunately, but he’s a huge reason I’m doing what I’m doing. The Catch was the most exciting sports moment of my youth. It put me on this path. Forever grateful to Dwight and @JoeMontana for that inspiration. #RIP87 https://t.co/V9hupHkIeS

Dwight Clark was an NFL legend long before he was named de facto GM of the expansion Browns in 1999. He was always an optimistic person. R.I.P. Thoughts & prayers to his family.

The Catch is arguably the greatest play in Bay Area sports history. But Dwight Clark’s legacy is soo much more than that. It’s good naturedness. It’s his smile. It’s the way he brought the 49ers brotherhood together by publicly fighting ALS. RIP 87. Gone but never forgotten pic.twitter.com/0NIufU0fwe
