Buster Posey has been a very good major league baseball player for a long time. But before breaking into the bigs, Posey starred at Florida State University, winning the 2008 Golden Spikes Award as the top amateur baseball player in the country and leading the school’s baseball team to the College World Series that year.

Now, the school is honoring him with a special accolade: an induction into its Hall of Fame.

Posey’s numbers from his years in college are eye-popping. In 2006, his freshman year, he batted .346 with 48 RBI and a .900 OPS. He increased his average and RBI count in his sophomore year before exploding in his junior year, hitting .463 with a 1.445 OPS, including 26 HR and 93 RBI as well as 226 total bases and 51 extra-base hits in just 68 games played.

This exceptional production led the Giants to select Posey No. 5 overall in the 2008 draft. After just over a year in the minors, he made his major-league debut as a September call-up late in the 2009 season and joined the team on a permanent basis in the middle of the 2010 season.
