The 2018 season has been one to forget for Hunter Pence. Sunday’s game, however, provided some respite from the frustration.
Pence hit his first walk-off in over two years with a cue shot, two-RBI double in the bottom of the 11th inning, to give the Giants a 3-2 win over the Padres. It’s the 11th walk-off hit of Pence’s career and his first since May 23, 2016. Interestingly, both were against Padres reliever Brad Hand.
Pence entered Sunday’s game with an abysmal slash line of .193/.242/.216 in 88 at-bats, and was 0-for-3 on Sunday before his game-winning hit.
The Giants gave the Padres the lead in the top half of the inning, when Cory Spangenberg’s RBI single off Ty Blach broke the 1-1 tie.
Here’s how it looked from the stands down the first-base line.

And here’s how Pence looked after being mobbed by his teammates.

The win is the Giants’ fifth in six games, and puts them a game above .500 (40-39). San Francisco sits five games back of the first place Diamondbacks in the NL West.
