Though listed as an outfielder by MLB, the Giants believe Luciano, 16, is a future shortstop.
“He’s exciting,” Joe Salermo, Giants director of international operations told The Athletic back in March. “We feel he can play shortstop and he has quick hands and power. He can hit. He’s a really good athlete.”
A native of the Dominican Republic, Luciano stands at 6-foot-2, weighing in at 180 pounds, and possesses what the Giants believe is effortless power. According to Baggarly, the Giants have been linked to Luciano for over a year, and have sent “every special assistant and trusted advisor” to the Dominican Republic for their assessment.
