SAN FRANCISCO — Brandon Crawford has had an excellent season for the Giants after rebounding from a slow start, posting prolific offensive numbers go to with his usual wizardry at short. Now, Crawford has been rewarded for his performance.

Crawford was the lead fan vote-getter and will start at shortstop for the National League at the 2018 MLB All-Star Game at Nationals Park in Washington, D.C. on July 17. The selection is the second of Crawford’s career and his first start. He has posted a slash line of .300/.365/.479 in 87 games played this year, including 10 home runs, 39 runs batted in, and 21 doubles.

Buster Posey was also named as the reserve catcher for the National League, after Cubs catcher Willson Contreras edged him out for the top spot. This is Posey’s sixth All-Star selection, and his third as a reserve. Posey is posting a slash line of .290/.371/.420 in 73 games played this season.

Despite currently holding the eighth highest OPS in the NL (.902), Brandon Belt has not yet been selected to the team, but still has a chance to land the final spot via fan vote. Fellow first basemen Paul Goldschmidt, Freddie Freeman, and Joey Votto were selected ahead of Belt.
