Tim Flannery fills in for Renel Brooks-Moon, calls starting line-ups for Giants vs. Cubs

For July 11 only, the voice of the Giants was not Renel Brooks-Moon. Brooks-Moon, who has introduced the Giants as the team’s public address announcer since the team moved from Candlestick Park in 2000, served as the mistress of ceremony for the induction of San Francisco mayor London Breed, the city’s first female African-American mayor.

Taking Brooks-Moon’s place was longtime Giants third base coach Tim Flannery, who manned the position with emotive gestures from 2007-14. Flannery said he would not attempt to bring that same energy at third base into the booth.

“I’m not going to do anything nuts,” Flannery told the San Francisco Chronicle. “That’s my one thing going into it.”

Flannery’s debut was met with another debut, in the form of third baseman Chase d’Arnaud’s first Giants home run. D’Arnaud led off an explosive first inning for the Giants that saw four runs come across the plate, as left fielder Gorkys Hernandez knocked in two runs on a triple, and was subsequently driven in on a single by center fielder Steven Duggar.
