Posey’s 13th inning walk-off gives Giants 5-4 win over Cubs

Buster Posey will not be participating in next week’s MLB All-Star Game, electing to use the break as a opportunity to rest his nagging hip. That hip sure seemed fine in Wednesday’s game vs. the Cubs, that saw Posey catch 13 innings, before hitting a walk-off single to give the Giants a 5-4 win over Chicago. The walk-off was Posey’s third hit of the day.

The win ensured a series victory for San Francisco, who have now won three of their last four, and sit 3.5 games out of first place in the NL West, and 3.5 games out of the final wild card spot.

The Orange and Black were in danger of spoiling a four-run first inning advantage, started by a Chase d’Arnaud lead-off home run, his first as a member of the Giants. The Cubs would slowly chip away, doing most of their damage in the fifth inning, when Kris Bryant tattooed a Johnny Cueto fastball to dead center, a two-run blast.

The Giants will play a weekend series with the Oakland A’s at AT&T Park before going on break.
