Duggar scores first run off Jackson balk

SAN FRANCISCO – It’s not often a pitcher balks as clearly as A’s starter Edwin Jackson did Friday night. With Giants center fielder Stephen Duggar sitting at third base and shortstop Brandon Crawford at the plate, Jackson did everything but let the pitch go. He went into his windup, planted his foot and spun wildly off the mound with the ball still in his hand. Duggar jogged home to give the Giants a 1-0 lead. It marks Duggar’s second run scored in his fourth game as a Giant since being called up from the Triple-A Sacramento River Cats.

After Duggar hit a leadoff double, Jackson looked like he was about to work a clean inning. He forced a Brandon Belt groundout which moved Duggar to third before walking Andrew McCutchen, who was thrown out on a botched steal play. This left Brandon Crawford up with two outs to watch Jackson’s miscue. Jackson closed out the inning two batters later, leaving the Giants with a 1-0 lead.

The lead lasted less than a half-inning, as A’s left fielder Chad Pinder took Madison Bumgarner deep to left-center field in the top of the fifth to tie the game at one run apiece.

Duggar would come home to give the Giants a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the sixth inning from a line drive single to left field by Buster Posey. He has been prolific on the basepath in his first week with the Giants:
