The Giants have signed Braves outfielder Peter Bourjos to a deal with the Giants’ Triple-A affiliate, the Sacramento River Cats. Bourjos, 31, has been in the majors since 2010 and is known for his speed and defensive ability. He batted .205 in 36 games for the Braves this season and is a career .240 hitter.
While Bourjos has not been effective as a hitter this season, he gives the Giants another right-handed bat in a largely lefty-dominated lineup. Giants manager Bruce Bochy moved Buster Posey to the fifth spot in the lineup for the first time in eight years against the Oakland A’s to give the team depth from both sides of the plate. Bochy added that Bourjos can still provide value to the Giants by adding lineup depth and scoring potential.

“He’s still a good athlete,” Bochy said. “He can fly, a really good defender. He’s a right-handed bat who has a knack for scoring runs.”
