SAN FRANCISCO – It has not been Jeff Samardzija’s week. On Wednesday, the Giants reportedly told the Yankees that the 33-year-old starting pitcher is available via trade before the July 31 trade deadline.

On Saturday, Samardzija lasted just four innings and allowed two earned runs in the 4-3 Giants’ loss to the Oakland A’s. Now, he is on the 10-day disabled list. The Giants announced Sunday morning that Samardzija is suffering from right shoulder inflammation, a factor in his poor outing against the A’s.

Samardzija was previously activated from the 10-day disabled list July 7 after suffering from shoulder tightness that kept him out from late May through July.

Giants manager Bruce Bochy said he is unsure what Samardzija’s status will be after the All-Star break, but may know better after he is evaluated by team doctors during Sunday’s game.

“I may have something more for you after the game today because we’re talking about what we are going to do,” Bochy said. “So I’ll know exactly what’s the plan is after the game. He’s going to get evaluated by the docs today. That hasn’t happened. So that’s why I don’t know the exact plan yet.”

Bochy added that Samardzija’s status will likely become clearer after he takes a bullpen session in the upcoming week.
