Showtime releases inside look at DeMarcus Cousins before, after signing with Warriors

Showtime dropped a fascinating three-minute video on Wednesday morning, documenting DeMarcus Cousins in the days before, and immediately after deciding to join the Warriors on a one-year deal for next season.

In the piece, Cousins confirms earlier reports that there was “no offer” from his previous team, the New Orleans Pelicans, even after Cousins’ camp reached out.

“I understand it,” Cousins said of the Pelicans. “They had a big year and they don’t want to ruin it taking a chance on a damaged player. Cool.”

Cousins then says that his camp reached out to a number of other teams who also weren’t interested. That’s when they called Golden State.

“You know we reached out to some other teams. We got answers like: ‘We don’t believe it’s a good fit,’ or ‘We’ve got to see what we’re doing with our roster right now,’ just kind of bulls–t answers. And then there were some flat out ‘We can’t take that risk.’

“I had to prepare myself for the situation, the different possibilities that I knew would happen. Talked to Draymond (Green), talked to KD (Kevin Durant), talked to Steph(en Curry). They were like ‘Hell yeah, let’s do it’

“I probably could’ve got a decent contract from a bad team. But how does that help me?”

Cousins also addressed how he feels about the reaction to his decision, which seemed to bother many who cover and follow the league.

“I knew how it would be perceived from some. I didn’t give a f–k.

“There are some motherf—–s out there probably ripping their hair out. And I love it.”
