DeMarcus Cousins explains why ‘Draymond probably had the worst pitch’

Draymond Green played an important role in luring four-time NBA All-Star DeMarcus Cousins to the Warriors. But his recruiting pitch, which ultimately proved successful, was… different.

“Man, Draymond probably had the worst pitch,” Cousins said in an interview with ESPN’s Chris Haynes. “(He said,) ‘I am pretty sure me and you are going to fight.’ ‘I’m like Draymond, whoa, whoa, whoa.’”

Earlier Thursday, when Cousins was officially introduced as a Warrior, he was asked whether he would fight with any of the current Warriors.

“Do you just get it in one time and get it out of the way?” a reporter asked.

“Might as well,” Cousins said, laughing.

It’s no secret Cousins is one of the most animated players in the league. What you see is what you get. The same goes for Green.

“It’s a great group of guys,” Cousins said. “Easy going people, maybe outside of Draymond.”

Cousins and Green are self-deprecating about their mutual intensity because of their ongoing friendship.

“Draymond, that’s my guy,” Cousins later told ESPN. “I respect him as a player. I respect him as a competitor. He’s one of the top in this business, just his approach to every game, like I want that guy on my team every day. We talk, we kind of communicated about what we both wanted, which was winning games. He openly said, ‘I know I won’t get as many touches, and I don’t care. Same thing about me; it’s about winning a game. I think me and Draymond will mesh well. I think we have a lot of similarities. The same way he is appreciated, hopefully I can receive the same thing.
