A half hour before the MLB trade deadline, Jon Heyman of MLB Network is reporting that the San Francisco Giants have “entered the fray” for Phillies starting pitcher Matt Harvey. Giants beat writer Henry Schulman has confirmed the report.

Harvey, 29, was once considered one of the best arms in baseball, finishing fourth in Cy Young voting in 2013. Harvey hasn’t been the same since 2015, however, posting a 5.55 ERA in 53 starts over the past three seasons. Harvey was traded by the Mets to the Reds on May 8. In his 14 starts with Cincinnati, Harvey has posted a 4.44 ERA, but an impressive 1.19 WHIP. Harvey is scheduled to become a free agent at the end of this season.

The Giants are likely interested in Harvey due to the fact that right-hander Johnny Cueto is back on the disabled list, and may be gone for the season with Tommy John surgery likely on the horizon.
