The 49ers will honor 49ers legend Dwight Clark’s life, and “The Catch” tied to his legacy, fittingly in the upcoming season.

During a private screening Tuesday night, the 49ers announced they will wear a No. 87 helmet decal, which depicts a silhouette of Clark leaping in the air, in every game of the upcoming season. That same emblem will be highlighted on the field bunting for every game.

The 49ers will also will honor Clark during their nationally televised matchup with the Los Angeles Rams Oct. 21 by erecting 350-pound statues of Clark and Joe Montana standing exactly 23 yards apart, to reenact “The Catch,” outside of Levi’s Stadium. Clark, who died June 4th after a long battle with ALS, will be suspended midair, and his outstretched hands will extend 11 feet.

The No. 87 emblem will be placed in the north end zone at the exact location of his catch during the Rams game, which will also serve as San Francisco’s annual alumni game. Funds will be raised throughout the weekend for the Golden Heart Fund, which supports 49ers alumni with financial, medical, psychological, and emotional support. The fund is Clark’s charity of choice.
