During the middle of the first game of a four-game series between the Giants and New York Mets, news broke that Giants outfielder Andrew McCutchen had been placed on revocable waivers. According to Andrew Baggarly, the move means McCutchen is likely to leave the team imminently.
Not surprising given the way #sfgiants played in Cincinnati, but I’m hearing Andrew McCutchen has been placed on revocable waivers. Very good chance he is wearing another uniform by the end of the week.

Earlier in the season, Baggarly said it was likely that the Giants would look to trade McCutchen “pretty quick” should the season start to go downhill. After losing four straight games and being swept by the Cincinnati Reds, it appears that was the signal the Giants needed to move McCutchen. He is in the final year of a six-year $51.5 million deal, and will make $14.75 million this season, according to Spotrac.
According to Baggarly, the team is generally considerate of putting players in positive situations. Baggarly also stated that the move to place McCutchen on revocable waivers can only be made once.
#sfgiants are very conscientious about putting their former players in a good situation when possible. McCutchen is a great pro, a talented player, and he deserves to be in a place where he can have a shot to win a ring (and get more exposure as an impending free agent).
