It’s that kid again. Steven Duggar looks right at home in center field at AT&T Park and he showed it again Tuesday night. With the Giants and Arizona Diamondbacks tied at 0-0 in the eighth inning, Duggar combined with Brandon Crawford to save a run.
After a seven-inning shutout pitching performance from Madison Bumgarner, Sam Dyson entered the game, allowing a single between a pair of outs. Then, Diamondbacks catcher Jeff Mathis ripped a line drive to deep left-center field. Duggar hauled over toward the ball after it landed, tracked it down on a hop and wheeled it in immediately to Brandon Crawford.
Crawford caught the ball and relayed it home. Despite a high throw, the speed of the relay allowed Nick Hundley to catch the ball and tag Nick Ahmed out at home comfortably. The home-field crowd at AT&T erupted in appreciation of the rookie center fielder’s combination with Crawford as the Giants went into the 9th still scoreless.
