Tolbert’s Beer Review: Port Brewing Company Board Meeting

By

The one thing that Tom Tolbert hates more than coffee is board meetings. Unfortunately for Tom, this week’s beer is a coffee brown ale named Board Meeting.

“I must be literally one the 5% of people on Earth who don’t drink coffee,” Tom said.

Waking up at 9:30 every morning helps from abstaining from a, quite normal, coffee addiction. However, Tom doesn’t seem to mind the taste of coffee in his beer. He seems to think his distaste for coffee came from growing up in a household that drank Folgers coffee – not the best part of waking up for Tom.

From Port Brewing Company:

Added in 2013 to the Port Brewing year-round lineup, Board Meeting is an amplified Brown Ale, brewed with liberal additions of coffee from local San Diego roasters, Ryan Brothers and cocoa nibs sourced from famed San Francisco chocolate maker TCHO. Deep coffee flavor gives way to layers of bitter dark chocolate and a creamy vanilla body.

“The coffee flavor is strong in this,” Tom Said. “Robust is a word that comes to mind when drinking this, if you like coffee you’ll like this beer.”

Tom’s rule of thumb is to only drink dark beers after Labor Day as he tends to drink lighter beers in the summer when it’s hot, which for the Bay Area can be as sweltering as 78 degrees. Tom’s parents who live in Vegas aren’t very empathetic when he complains about the heat here.
