It appears as if the 49ers will be trotting out their fourth right guard in just two games on Sunday. Kyle Shanahan indicated on KNBR that recent practice squad call-up Najee Toran will likely be the starter for Sunday’s home opener vs. the Detroit Lions, as both Mike Person and Joshua Garnett remain doubtful to be ready by then.

“Right now we’re still waiting on some guys to get healthy so I’m not sure if they’re going to be able to by Sunday,” Shanahan told Tolbert & Lund. “We’ve had to take Najee Toran, we moved him up from our practice squad on Monday. He’s gotten most of the reps here throughout the week and I’m expecting him to be our guy here Sunday unless we can have a miraculous recovery by some of the other guys.”

Both Person and Garnett were knocked out with foot injuries in the 49ers’ Week 1 loss to Minnesota. Rookie tackle Mike McGlinchey filled in as the emergency third stringer, but it appears that he will be moved back to right tackle on Sunday.

Toran, 22, started 24 games during his four years at UCLA, and earned Honorable Mention All-Pac-12 honors in 2017. Toran has never appeared in an NFL game.
