The San Francisco Giants were officially eliminated from the playoffs on Monday, making 2018 the first time since 2008-09 that they will miss the postseason in consecutive years. The Giants entered 2018 with real expectations after adding to former All-Stars in Evan Longoria and Andrew McCutchen this offseason. Those win now moves didn’t pan out, and now the Giants find themselves in an even bigger pickle this offseason with money tied up in aging stars, and a farm system ranked in the bottom third of MLB.

It should then come as no surprise that the Giants are looking to shake things up this winter, and that general manager Bobby Evans is on the hot seat, according to a report from Bob Nightengale of USA Today.

Nightengale joined Gary & Larry on Monday morning and confirmed the report.

“He’s certainly on the hot seat,” Nightengale said of Evans. “I don’t know what happens, I do know they’re going to shake it up. Everybody in the industry has talked about changes will happen. From what I understand, Brian Sabean’s not going anywhere, Bruce Bochy isn’t either, they both have one more year on their contract, just like Bobby Evans. But if they’re not going you wonder who does take the fall. So Bobby is certainly on the hot seat, but it’s yet to be decided who actually gets let go.

“This year, Brian Sabean became much more involved. Ownership came to Sabean and pretty much said hey you take control again, he had kind of stepped back. This year almost flip-flopped to the way it used to be, Sabean was in charge, and Evans almost reported to him.”
