SANTA CLARA — Marquise Goodwin headlines the list of seven 49ers inactives in Sunday’s matchup with the visiting Arizona Cardinals.

The full inactive list reads as follows: Goodwin, Dante Pettis, Jimmie Ward, Joshua Garnett, Jullian Taylor, Shon Coleman, and D.J. Jones.

Goodwin’s playing status has teetered since he injured his quad in Week 1. He missed Week 2, then played consecutive games, but he hurt his hamstring last Sunday, hampering him throughout this week of practice. He was listed as questionable all week to play Sunday. The 49ers are taking the safe route.

Goodwin is the starter at the “X” position. The team’s backup, Pettis, will also miss Sunday’s game. The 49ers will rely on Pierre Garcon, Kendrick Bourne, Trent Taylor, and Richie James to pick up the slack at receiver.

Some positive news for the 49ers: Richard Sherman (calf) will play after missing last Sunday’s 29-27 win against the Los Angeles Chargers. At the beginning of the week, Kyle Shanahan did not expect Sherman to play, but he said he wouldn’t rule out the three-time first-team All-Pro. Sherman’s return comes at a key time, with Ward out Sunday with a tweaked hamstring, Ahkello Witherspoon struggling throughout the season, and Greg Mabin likely to get his first extended action of 2018.

Matt Breida, the NFL’s third-leading rusher, will play. He has dealt with a shoulder injury throughout recent weeks.

Joe Staley and Mike McGlinchey will also be active. Staley hurt his knee last week. He slowly worked his way back into the fold this week at practice.

Joshua Garnett will miss his fourth straight game after suffering a dislocated toe in the season opener.

Arizona’s list of inactives reads: Sam Bradford, TJ Logan, Markus Golden, Jeremy Vujnovich, Korey Cunningham, Blaine Clausell, and Robert Nkemdiche.

Kickoff is slated for 1:25 p.m.
