John Lynch calls absence of Kaepernick in 49ers-Packers gallery a ‘glaring omission’

In anticipation of the 49ers’ clash with the Packers this Monday night, the team’s official website put together a photo gallery featuring some of the most memorable moments from the two teams’ 66 matchups over the years.

Oddly, no photos of former 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick were included, despite the fact that Kaepernick led the team to two playoff wins over Green Bay. In one of those victories during the 2012 playoffs, Kaepernick rushed for 181 yards — most ever by an NFL quarterback — and two touchdowns while throwing for 263 yards and two touchdowns in his first playoff start.

The news of Kaepernick’s omission made headlines on Thursday afternoon. On Friday, 49ers general manager John Lynch joined Murph & Mac on KNBR, and admitted that a mistake had been made.

“I just learned about it a couple of minutes ago,” Lynch said. “Obviously, from our part, a glaring omission. From ownership on down, we’ve got so much respect for his contributions to this franchise and against the Packers. Anyone who is a fan of football, let alone 49er fans, knows that he has a great part of history against the Packers.

“We’re looking into right now how that happened, and we’re trying to rectify it. I just learned about it and so not something that I’m proud of. It’s a glaring omission, as I said. We’re working right now to get that fixed.”

This morning, two photos of Kaepernick was added to the gallery that currently features 51 photos.

“Unfortunately there were a handful of obvious misses in this gallery posted by our website team and we appreciate them being brought to our attention,” the 49ers said in a statement. “The 49ers organization has tremendous respect and gratitude for the contributions Colin made to our team over the years. We have fond memories of those games and that should have been displayed on our website. This oversight does not properly reflect the appreciation our ownership and this team have for Colin.”
