Steve Kerr dropped championship ring shortly after receiving it: ‘I thought I had broken it’

The Warriors received their championship rings Tuesday evening. Even with the high standard that seems to be eclipsed with each passing year, these ones are pretty incredible.

In addition to broom-esque bristles on the side of the ring to represent the sweep of the Cavaliers, perhaps the most incredible feature is the top of the ring, which can be removed and is reversible, a first for championship rings of any kind.

Warriors head coach Steve Kerr was trying to examine that unique feature shortly after receiving his ring. The result was nearly disastrous.

“So we got out there and Rick Welts told me that you could twist off the top and flip it around,” Kerr told Tolbert & Lund on Thursday evening. “Andre (Iguodala) had figured it out already and the guys were trying to figure it out, and then mine literally fell on the floor into two pieces. I thought I had broken it.

“It should be simpler, we’re just getting a ring,” Kerr laughed.

Although he didn’t break it, Kerr admitted it’s probably not safe in his hands

“That’s a good question,” Kerr said when asked which member of the Warriors is mostly likely to lose the ring. “You asked for players, but I would be the most likely to lose it. I lose stuff all the time.”
