SAN FRANCISCO – Thursday morning the San Francisco Giants invited family, friends and fans of Willie McCovey to AT&T Park to celebrate his life and legacy.

CEO of the Giants Larry Baer, Mayor of San Francisco London Breed and former players like Barry Bonds all spoke about the player many affectionately called “Stretch.” A few current players were also in attendance, and the team played a pre-produced video with quotes from a few of the people who have recently won the “Willie Mac Award” including Buster Posey, Hunter Pence, Madison Bumgarner and Brandon Crawford.

“I think it’s a huge accomplishment,” Bumgarner said about winning the Willie Mac Award in the video. “We all want to be good teammates. That’s what we strive to do, and perform on the field too. That’s one of my favorite awards just because of the fact of who it comes from.”

“It’s voted on by the guys in the clubhouse that you’re battling with every day,” Crawford said of the award. “They see all the work that you put in. I think it’s the biggest honor you can have as a Giants player.”
