Jim Harbaugh: ‘Frank (Gore) is my favorite player of all-time that I’ve ever coached’

During a press conference earlier this week, former 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh heaped unprompted praise on former 49ers running back Frank Gore, who set a record last weekend for being the only running back to rush for at least 500 yards in 14 consecutive seasons.

“I would like to also congratulate Frank Gore,” Harbaugh said during a University of Michigan press conference. “The record he set this past Sunday — and Frank is my favorite player of all-time, that I’ve ever coached — but 14 years of each year rushing for over 500 yards, surpassing Walter Payton and Emmitt Smith is incredible. Just incredible. And most of those 14 he rushed for 1,000 (yards). I remember his first 10 years were each 1,000, maybe he’ll get to 1,000 this year. All respect to that accomplishment by Frank.”

Harbaugh coached Gore during his entire tenure with the 49ers from 2011-2014. Gore made the Pro Bowl three times and gained 4,659 yards in those four seasons combined. Gore is currently 4th on the all-time rushing list with 14,554 yards, and 715 yards behind Barry Sanders for third place.

Gore responded on Twitter calling Harbaugh one of his “best coaches,” while former teammate and current 49er Joe Staley called Gore his “favorite player in the history of the world.”
