The NBA world anxiously awaited Kevin Durant’s and Draymond Green’s response after their public confrontation that resulted in Green being suspended for one game. With Durant expected to opt out of the final year of his contract after the current season, many pointed to their recent fight as potentially the beginning to the end of Golden State’s dynasty.

Green did not publicly apologize for calling Durant a b**** or bringing up Durant’s free agency out of the blue. Yet Durant has seemingly attempted to reconcile their damaged relationship, The Athletic‘s Marcus Thompson has seen recently.

“There are some things that I saw from (Durant) where I was impressed by his humility,” Thompson told KNBR’s Murph and Mac Tuesday morning. “His interactions with Draymond, like he was publicly, there was a play where Draymond is on a break and turns it over. He was supposed to make the pass to KD, and KD is saying something to him, and patting him on the chest and ran the other way.

And I am like, ‘Wow, look at him. He is making the effort to make things normal when he could be in his feelings for a week.’ I felt like it would be like a week before you can start talking again, walking around each other on egg shells. He was making an effort. He is one of those guys that can say I am going to put all that aside, and I am just going to play basketball.”

The play Thompson referred to happened in the third quarter of Golden State’s 107-86 loss to the Houston Rockets last Thursday.

The mending of Durant and Green’s relationship is the most important issue at hand for long-term purposes. But the Warriors are in the midst of a three-game losing streak in which they averaged 95.7 points. In the six games Stephen Curry has missed with a groin strain, the Warriors have lost four of them.

Until Curry returns, the Warriors will struggle to dominate in their typical fashion. One of the short-term solutions may be a big performance from Durant, Thompson says.

“I feel like he really wants a big game,” Thompson said. “He really wants a 40-spot, just to say, ‘What, let me remind y’all who I am.’”
