49ers give statement after Reuben Foster’s ex questioned team’s role in investigation

Elissa Ennis, the woman who accused Reuben Foster of domestic violence in February and November, spoke with ABC about the incidents in a video posted Thursday morning.

The most newsworthy portion of the interview involved Ennis saying that Foster did indeed hit her in February, and that her May testimony given under oath to a Santa Clara County judge where she stated that she’d lied about the initial allegations, was done to protect Foster’s career.

While speaking about the allegations made on Nov. 24 at the 49ers team hotel in Tampa Bay, Ennis also questioned the team’s role in the initial investigation.

“Even when I called the police, the 49ers came up there,” Ennis said. “… I have pictures of the 49ers coming up there trying to talk to the police telling them I’m the same ex-girlfriend that set up there and lied.”

The 49ers responded to the comments on Thursday morning through a team spokesperson, via Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area.

“The 49ers fully cooperated with authorities, assisted in locating Mr. Foster and in no way impeded their investigation.”

Following the news, the Santa Clara County District Attorney is now exploring the legal options regarding charging Foster again. Foster is scheduled for arraignment on Jan. 3 for the most recent incident.
