Word on the street is that new Giants head honcho Farhan Zaidi is looking to add a starting pitcher or two to the rotation this offseason. One of those could be former Tigers, Astros, and A’s starting pitcher Mike Fiers, according to Jon Morosi of MLB Network. The Reds, Nationals, and Rangers are also reportedly interested.

Fiers, 33, is coming off a career season in 2018, while splitting time between the Tigers and A’s. The eight-year veteran was part of a late-season trade to Oakland last year. Last season was a bounce-back campaign for Fiers, who saw his time in Houston come to an end after posting a combined ERA of 4.84 in 2016 and 2017.

Fiers is perhaps most known for throwing a no-hitter on Aug. 21, 2015 as a member of the Astros. He also pitched an immaculate inning — nine pitches, nine strikes — earlier that season as a member of the Brewers.

The Giants enter the offseason with Madison Bumgarner, Jeff Samardzija, Derek Rodriguez, and Chris Stratton fighting for spots in the rotation. Johnny Cueto is expected to miss all of 2019 as he recovers from Tommy John surgery.
