Eric Reid says NFL has drug tested him seven times this season

Eric Reid has played 11 games during the 2018 NFL season since being signed by the Carolina Panthers on Sept. 28. On Monday night, the former 49ers safety posted a photo of a note left on his locker by the NFL, notifying him that he’d been randomly selected for a drug test.

The issue? Reid says it’s the seventh time he’s been “randomly” selected this season.

“I’ve been here 11 weeks, I’ve been drug tested seven times,” Reid told reporters after the Panthers 12-9 defeat to the Saints. “That has to be statistically impossible. I’m not a mathematician, but there’s no way that’s right.”

The implication here is that the NFL is specifically targeting Reid, who filed a collusion lawsuit along with former 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick against the league in May. Reid, like Kaepernick, believes his inability to land a contract through the entire offseason was a result of his social activism and decision to kneel during the national anthem.
