The Giants attended the workout of former Blue Jays shortstop Troy Tulowitzki on Tuesday, and had the “most impressive presence,” according to Jeff Passan of Yahoo Sports. Both VP of Baseball Operations Farhan Zaidi and Manager Bruce Bochy were in attendance.

At first glance, the Giants’ interest in Tulowitzki is curious, considering their left side of the infield seems secure with Brandon Crawford and Evan Longoria. Tulowitzki has played all 1286 career major league games at shortstop. The right-handed hitting Tulowitzki could be used as a platoon option against certain left-handed pitchers, with a career slash line of .307/.389/.529 against lefties.

Tulowitzki is coming off the worst season of his 12-year career at the plate, with a slash line of .249/.300/.378 in 66 games for Toronto. Tulowitzki spent a good portion of 2018 on the DL, requiring midseason surgery to deal with bone spurs in both heels. He was released by the Blue Jays on Dec. 11, with the club electing to eat the $38 million remaining on his contract.

Tulowitzki, 34, has seen his numbers decline consistently since his last full season with the Rockies in 2014. Tulowitzki made the All-Star team five times from 2010-15, and won the NL Gold Glove at shortstop in 2010 and 2011.
