The Giants are one of a handful of teams with interest in free agent utility player Josh Harrison, according to longtime MLB reporter Jon Heyman. Harrison has played at second base, third base, and in the outfield throughout his career, and fits the type of versatile player that new VP of baseball ops Farhan Zaidi is looking for.
The Nationals, Reds, Brewers and Rangers are the other teams that have interest, according to Heyman, while the Yankees, Phillies and Dodgers are “in play” for Harrison.

Harrison, 31, is a two-time All-Star, and had spent his entire eight-year career in the Pirates organization, before becoming a free agent this offseason. A super utility player, Harrison spent most of last season at second base for Pittsburgh. Harrison had a down year after an All-Star campaign in 2017, posting a slash line of .250/.293/.363 while being limited to 97 games with hamstring issues.
Harrison could fill multiple roles for the Giants, who are currently in the market for two corner outfielders. Zaidi has also said he is interested in adding a right-handed platoon partner for Joe Panik at second base.
Harrison’s best season came in 2014 when he hit .315/.347/.490 and finished ninth in MVP voting.
