The Washington Redskins’ decision to claim Reuben Foster off waivers caused a stir throughout the NFL. It also led to a shake-up in Washington’s front office.

Redskins COO Brian Lafemina and three other executives were fired by team president Bruce Allen, “following complaints registered by Lafemina over last month’s controversial acquisition of linebacker Reuben Foster,” according to a report by the Washington Times.

Via Pro Football Talk:

“The move, reportedly masterminded by team president Bruce Allen, triggered an avalanche of criticism, and Lafemina reportedly communicated to Allen and owner Daniel Snyder concerns that had been communicated by corporate ticketholders. It became, per Loverro, the “tipping point” in a relationship that was otherwise doomed from its inception.”

The Redskins were the only team to claim Reuben Foster off waivers after he was released by the 49ers on the morning of Nov. 25, following his arrest at the team hotel the night before. It was Foster’s third domestic incident in 2018, and the latest in a long list of off the field issues that have plagued Foster since his time at Alabama.

Washington’s claiming Foster led to an immediate backlash, which prompted a team statement explaining the decision. After being claimed, Foster was placed on the Commissioner’s Exempt List, where he will remain during the investigation of this most recent incident. Foster cannot play or practice while he is on the list.
