Niners head coach Kyle Shanahan joined Murph and Mac Friday morning to talk Senior Bowl as well as some updates surrounding the 49ers. With Jimmy Garoppolo making significant progress in his rehab from his ACL injury, Kyle Shanahan said he was “surprised” over what he saw Garoppolo doing at the team’s facility recently.

“He looks good, I’m not allowed to be working with him right now, but I was in the office a couple of days ago, I was stalking him while watching him out my window,” Shanahan said.

Last week General Manager John Lynch talked about both Garoppolo and McKinnon’s rehabs where he said he expects the 49ers quarterback to be ready for OTA’s in the spring.

“He actually surprised me, he was running around, throwing, doing some stuff out of the pocket,” Shanahan said when he saw Garoppolo on the 49ers practice field. Because Shanahan and his staff have been coaching the Senior Bowl, he was unaware of just how far Garoppolo has progressed this past week.

“I even had to call our trainer and ask ‘should he be moving that much?’ and he said he should be. It’s cool to see.”

Seemingly every week there is a new development in Jimmy Garoppolo’s rehab progress, which is a great sign for the quarterback’s availability for team workouts starting this spring.
