The Giants signed former Dodgers and Braves starting pitcher Brandon Beachy to a minor-league deal on Saturday, according to Jon Heyman of MLB Network.

Beachy, 32, was on his way to being an All-Star caliber pitcher with the Braves in 2012 before Tommy John surgery threw a wrench in his career. Beachy’s 2.00 ERA in 13 starts was the best in MLB that season before he was sidelined. He had posted a 3.68 ERA in 25 starts the season before. Beachy never really recovered from that surgery and had a second operation in 2014.
Giants VP of Baseball Operations Farhan Zaidi twice signed Beachy during his time with the Dodgers. Beachy made his last major league start for Los Angeles in 2015, where he allowed seven earned runs in two starts that season. Beachy didn’t pitch in 2016 or 2017, but resurfaced last season to pitch 12 and 2/3 innings of Independent League ball.
Beachy is likely being signed to join the Giants’ thin rotation at Triple-A Sacramento.
