Randy Miller dropped a report on Wednesday, detailing that the Giants have rejoined the sweepstakes for the still unsigned Bryce Harper. Shortly after, Jon Heyman of MLB Network reported that the Giants met with Harper this week, with Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports specifying that Bruce Bochy, Farhan Zaidi, and Larry Baer were in the meeting.

Heyman joined Gary & Larry on Wednesday morning, and said that he believes the Giants are very much players in the Harper sweepstakes.

“I think first on his list were the Yankees, the Red Sox, the Cubs, and I would say the Giants would be in the upper echelon of teams that he’d be interested in playing for,” Heyman began. “I think (Harper) wants a big stage. I’m seeing right now that you’ve got the Phillies, the White Sox, the Padres, the Giants, and maybe the Nats; I think the Giants in terms of their locale would be perceived as a positive in Harper’s case.”

Should Giants fans be seriously excited about Harper coming to the Bay?

“I think they probably should be, because there are only a limited number of teams in play. It seems like it’s expanding right now, I heard there were multiple teams that got in starting in February. Kind of unusual, but they probably saw the lay of the land and are figuring that Harper isn’t thrilled with any of the offers he’s received so far and they’re going to give it a shot. As far as we know, we have five teams in, and they’re one of five, so I that alone I’d say the fans should be (excited).”
