Terrell Davis: Kyle Shanahan ‘is the next Bill Belichick’

Terrell Davis: apparently a Kyle Shanahan fanatic.

Davis, a Pro Football Hall of Fame running back and two-time Super Bowl champion, gave Shanahan the ultimate compliment Tuesday on the NFL Network. Not only did Davis compare Shanahan to Patriots head coach Bill Belichick, who just won his sixth Super Bowl as a head coach and eighth in total, the Denver Broncos great said Shanahan is the heir apparent.

“There won’t be another six-ring coach,” Davis said, “but let me say the guy I think will be closest to that is Kyle Shanahan, the Niners coach right now. I know he is 10-22 as a coach right now, but he has been doing a lot with less than any coach in the league. He is young, he is innovative, he is a leader. He will be there for a long time. He will get that team turned around, and he will win some rings. It won’t be six, and it won’t be eight, but he is the next Bill Belichick.”

In his first two years as the 49ers head coach, Shanahan has led his teams to 6-10 and 4-12 records. To Davis’ point, the 49ers have competed with limited talent and a depleted roster. Last year, they held second-half leads in nine games.

Davis is projecting those glimpses of promise manifest into rings.
