Tolbert’s Beer Review: Alvarado Street Brewery Coconut Boogie

By

/

On this week’s beer “review” Tom reviews a funky coconut flavored brown ale, talks about his time in Spain, and draws the proverbial line in the sand on pie.

Coconut Boogie, by Tom’s favorite brewery Alvarado Street Brewery in Salinas, is an imperial brown ale that boasts a hefty 8.5% ABV and a not so subtle coconut flavor.

“Woo! That’s got a little punch and if you like coconut you’re going to like it but it’s pretty strong,” Tom said. “Yeah that is definitely for people that like coconut, because I’m not talking about a hint of coconut, it’s like getting hit in the head with a coconut.”

Tom is wary of it’s high ABV though and suggests even having it for dessert instead of ice cream. However, Tom does not support having this instead of pie. That’s where he’s drawing the line.

From Alvarado St:

Imperial Brown Ale brewed with Toasted Coconut! Chocolately notes from layered roasted malts in the base beer combine with the creamy, decadent flavor of caramelized coconut for an experience not unlike almond joy candy.
