DeMarcus Cousins gets technical for throwing shoe off court

Can’t say we’ve seen that one before.

The Golden State Warriors began their road trip Monday night in Charlotte and came away with a comfortable 121-110 win over the Hornets. Midway through the fourth quarter they held a 14-point lead when Hornets guard Jeremy Lamb lost a shoe on the floor.

Once he got rid of the ball, Lamb went to go pick up his shoe. He was not the only player on the floor with that idea.

DeMarcus Cousins was already in the area and did Lamb the solid of taking the shoe and getting it out of harm’s way … by tossing it across the court at the fans sitting courtside. Coincidentally enough, Carolina Panthers Pro Bowl linebacker Thomas Davis was the lucky fan who made the catch.

In all seriousness, the underhand toss from Cousins didn’t look to be too malicious. Regardless, the referees didn’t see it that way and served Cousins with his first and only technical foul of the night.

After he was called for the foul Cousins pleaded the case with the referees. He spoke about the incident after the game.

“You know next time I’ll just step on the shoe, roll my ankle, break it, tear an Achilles,” Cousins said. “I’ll leave it out there next time. I guess that’s what they want.”

Aside from the toss, Cousins played a fantastic game. He finished with 24 points on an efficient 9-for-15 night from the field that included a deep ball, to go with 11 boards, three assists and three boards.

It was an encouraging night for Cousins and the Warriors. The big man has had a difficult time integrating into the flow of the team as his minutes have increased.

Encouraging for the Warriors, nightmare-fuel for the rest of the league.
