Nick Bosa explains why he would ‘fit really well’ with 49ers

INDIANAPOLIS — Good news, 49ers fans: Nick Bosa sees the fit, too.

On Saturday afternoon, at the 2019 NFL Combine, Bosa explained why he feels he would “fit really well” with the current 49ers defensive front.

“They got really good interior guys right now,” Bosa said. “They just need help on the edge is what they told me. I think I would be a true defensive end there, hand in the dirt. That’s something I like about them, for sure.”

Bosa said he will meet with the 49ers formally Saturday night. He has meetings lined up with every team with the first eight picks in April’s draft.

Bosa has already met with 49ers general manager John Lynch once, at Ohio State’s Rose Bowl practice.

“He is a really good dude,” Bosa said about Lynch. “I am excited to get to know that franchise.”

Bosa has raved about the 49ers in recent weeks. At last month’s Super Bowl, Bosa went on KNBR and talked about the talent on the current roster.

“I’d be lucky to get picked by them,” Bosa told Gary & Larry. “I mean the roster for a team that’s picking No. 2 is a really stacked roster. They had the injury at quarterback that obviously allowed them to get this high in the draft. I think it would be cool definitely to go play for a team that is closer than most people think to being a contender.”

Bosa has been this year’s consensus top prospect after amassing 8.5 sacks and 16 tackles for loss in 2017. That status has not changed, despite missing the final 11 games of 2018 after having surgery to repair a core muscle injury. He noted he is fully recovered and feels better than ever.

Bosa would fill arguably San Francisco’s biggest need. The team’s edge rushers contributed just 14 sacks in 2018. The lack of pressure contributed to all-time lows — the 49ers tallied two interceptions and forced seven turnovers, which are both the fewest in NFL history.

The big question is whether Bosa will be available at No. 2 overall. The Cardinals, picking No. 1 overall, also need edge-rush help. But if they decide to either select quarterback Kyler Murray, a growing possibility, or trade their pick, the 49ers would have their choice of their top prospect.
