Only Andrew Bogut would return to the NBA, join the two-time reigning champs, start in his first game back, and laugh when he’s told about it.
Bogut will start Monday night against the Spurs, which marks his first game with the Warriors this season. Bogut was not expected to return this quickly. Thursday’s game at Indiana was originally the date. But with DeMarcus Cousins having an MRI on Monday due to a sore right foot, Bogut will spring into action Monday night.
When Steve Kerr told Bogut he’s starting, he “burst out laughing,” Kerr said.
Earlier this season, Bogut played in Sydney Kings of Australia’s National Basketball League and won both the MVP and Defensive Player of the Year Awards. Throughout the past week, Bogut’s efforts to get a visa were delayed, but he received one this past weekend. Now, Bogut will return to an NBA floor for the first time since the 2017-18 season with the Lakers.
