Are the Giants using the Cha-Cha slide to scare seagulls away from Oracle Park?

SAN FRANCISCO — Spring training games are all about learning new things.

The majority of the learning comes when managers and coaches use the exhibition games to put unproven players in games against major leaguers to see how they fare at the plate or on the mound. But today we learned something much more important.

It appears that seagulls hate the Cha-Cha slide, and the San Francisco Giants are using that fact against them.

Something you probably already know is that seagulls really like Oracle Park, formerly known as AT&T Park, formerly known as Pacific Bell Park, etc.. You probably also know that these gulls often become a nuisance around 10 p.m., flying around the field and landing in the stands.

But today the San Francisco Giants showed their hand. They have a trump card to the winged masses.

Multiple times during the first game at Oracle Park the in-house team for the Giants played DJ Casper’s Cha-Cha Slide. Each time the flock of gulls evacuated the premise.

Who knows how long the Giants have been using this strategy against the seagulls, but we’re on board.

Next time you’re at the park and the gulls start to descend on the game sit back, relax, and listen for the sweet soothing tones of DJ Casper telling you to sliiiiiide to the right.
