Bochy says he plans to ‘mix it up’ with lineup Friday

SAN DIEGO – Day one of the Giants’ 2019 campaign is over in San Diego, and Bruce Bochy knows there are a heap of questions to answer in the coming months, even as retirement beckons for him at the conclusion of this season. Today’s 2-0 loss did little to alleviate concerns over the team’s potential offensive struggles, as was the case for much of last season.

Following the game, Bochy said that he would “mix it up” with the lineup tomorrow. Before the game, he mentioned that Yangervis Solarte, who played in right field off the bench today, would start the next three days at shortstop, left and right field for the team.

“Yeah, I’m going to move him around,” Bochy said. “He’ll get a lot of playing time, it’ll just be different positions. I told him that already.”

The changes tomorrow might be expected for the next few weeks, as Bochy looks to familiarize himself with the Giants’ offseason acquisitions, and determine who he thinks can help the Giants avoid another barren offensive year.

“I’m going to mix it up a little bit here, so you’ll see a little bit different lineup,” Bochy said. Regarding the debuts of Connor Joe and Michael Reed, Bochy was complimentary on their performances, and the team’s hitting depth. “Those kids were fine, we’re just in a situation where we have a couple of good left-handed bats.”

Buster Posey said after the game that he’d play tomorrow, but wasn’t sure if he would play at catcher or first base. Outside of Posey’s health, which Bochy said was “fine,” Bochy spoke about the coming changes.
