Bochy laments Giants’ comeback attempt foiled by called strikes

SAN DIEGO – Bruce Bochy will feel much more pleased with the fact that tonight’s game became competitive than it remaining a scoreless stain on the Giants’ record books, but he felt aggrieved at a late opportunity that from his perspective, was taken from the Giants unfairly.

Had the Giants not scored tonight, it would have been the first time the team went without scoring in its first two games in its 137-year history. In that sense, Evan Longoria’s solo home run made this game more palatable to the Giants, but a bases-loaded pair of strikeouts quickly soured that glimpse of positivity.

Both Gerardo Parra and Brandon Belt were called out on strikes looking, leaving three baserunners, representing the tying runs in a 4-1 game, stranded on base. Bochy said afterwards, “They had the bat taken out of their hands… it was a tough way to go out.”
