In the eighth inning of the Giants 3-0 loss to the Tampa Bay Rays, San Francisco gave up a run on a very unusual balk from pitcher Nick Vincent.
After a Kevin Kiermaier triple, Vincent threw over to Longoria at third who was not expecting a throw. The throw caught Longoria off guard as he caught the ball while falling over.

After the game, Bruce Bochy talked about the bizarre balk and what attributed to the play.
“Well, yeah I mean he’s gotta be in the area,” Bochy said. “I couldn’t tell how far initially he broke there, but Longo wasn’t expecting that throw. That’s something we’ll take care of, but we have some new guys here and they’ve been getting used to some of our plays.”
There was no debating the call on Bochy’s end, as he agreed with the call, despite it leading to an even larger deficit for the Giants offense.
“But anyway with that said, it’s probably the right call because the position player has to be in the vicinity of the base and it was frustrating. We were trying to keep it a 2-0 game, and obviously its a lot easier to score two, so that didn’t help matters.“
