It’s over. No, really, it’s over. After 18 innings of baseball which seemed like they may never reach a conclusion, the San Francisco Giants have beaten the Colorado Rockies 3-2 on a walk-off fielder’s choice.
Both the Giants and Rockies expended every position player and pitcher in their bullpen tonight. The inning kicked off with a monster double from Brandon Belt that was only a double because he hit it into the longest part of Oracle Park. Belt missed a walk-off homer over triples alley by a couple feet at most, and the result was a ball that kicked hard off the top of the wall and bounced to Rockies right fielder Charlie Blackmon, who wheeled the ball in.
After Brandon Crawford was walked, Kevin Pillar flew out deep to center field, allowing Belt to tag up and move to third base. Gerardo Parra was then intentionally walked to put Erik Kratz at the plate. Kratz hit a grounder to the right side of the infield, which was moved in the protect the potential run scoring. The throw came to Rockies catcher Chris Iannetta at the plate, but his foot was well off the plate, and the marathon game was finally over.
